Scientific Governance

Chief Scientist: Dr Scott Grist PhD, MHGSA, FFSc (RCPA) With a career spanning 4 decades of active research and medical diagnostics, including the very origins of the industry, Scott is one of the most experienced and widely known practicing exponents of Molecular Genetics in Australia. This was formally recognised in 2011 when the Royal College of Pathologists of Australasia awarded him the status of Founding Fellow, Faculty of Science, in recognition of outstanding contributions to the field of Laboratory Medicine. At the time this effectively constituted membership of the “First 300” Clinical Scientists across all disciplines in Australasia Beginning work at the Women’s and Children’s Hospital in South Australia in 1986, before moving to Flinders Medical Centre in 1988, he received his PhD from Flinders University of South Australia in 1997 and was post-doctoral at Harvard Medical School before returning to South Australia in 1998 to begin building the first Molecular Pathology unit at Flinders Medical Centre. In 2005 he received an MHGSA, Molecular Genetics, from the Human Genetics Society of Australasia, became Head of the Genetic Pathology Department at Flinders Medical Centre in 2011 and received recognition as a Founding Fellow of the Faculty of Science, Royal College of Pathologists Australasia in the same year. In 2013 he was appointed Site Manager for SA Pathology operations at Flinders Medical Centre. Although primarily committed to the provision of high quality diagnostic Molecular Pathology services, Dr Grist has an extensive range of professional activities including laboratory accreditation and advisory roles with the Royal College of Pathologists and breast cancer research consortiums. He is a current member of the RCPA Cancer Services Advisory Committee (CANSAC), an active NATA technical auditor and holds full academic status with Flinders University of South Australia
